Nalgonda: People celebrated Bhogi festival on Monday across the
district with traditional fervour. The three-day festival of Sankranti kicked
off with Bhogi on Monday and people made bonfires in their villages across the
district.
They used unwanted wood and other items for the
bonfire with the belief that these will be replaced with new things in their
lives. Women danced around the bonfires singing folk songs. Popular folk songs
from Telangana were played in all the villages near the bonfires adding
traditional flavour to the festival. The women also made Rangoli designs in
front of their houses and placed ‘Gobbemmas’ in them. ‘Basvannas’ (Gangireddu)
made the rounds of the colonies in the towns filling the air with festivity in
the urban areas.
Telangana Jagruthi celebrates Sankranthi in
Karimnagar
Karimnagar: The district unit of Telangana Jagruthi
celebrated Sankrati festival in Karimnagar town on Monday. Attired in
traditional clothes, they arranged Bhogi fire at Telangana Chowk to mark Bhogi.
Speaking on the occasion, Jagruthi district president Jadi
Srinivas informed that besides protecting village tradition and culture,
telling about the uniqueness of festivals to rest of the world was the main
concept of Jagruthi.
Wishing the people on the occasion
of Sankranti, he asked the people to celebrate festival with enthusiasm and
joy. State leaders Balasankula Ananth Rao and Gande Kalpana also spoke.
Uyyala Vishnuvardhan, Karra Ravinder Reddy,
Rayananeni Sravan, Dumpeti Rajesham, Ratnakarachary, Vijay Kumar, Swaroopa
Rani, Venugopal Rao, Mallesham, Venkata Sai, Manu and other were present.
